Appeal seeking Bharat Ratna for Jayalalithaa rejected by Madras High Court

LIVE BHARATH : The Madras High Court today rejected a petition seeking Bharat Ratna for late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Madras High Court dismissing the petition said they cant give any such directions to the government.

Tamil Nadu cabinet in December had recommended late AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa for the Bharat Ratna.

The Cabinet had also suggested the Centre to install a life-size bronze statue in the Parliament Complex.

The Cabinet also passed a resolution to construct a memorial for Jayalalithaa and to change Puratchi Thalaivar MGR Memorial name into Puratchi Thalaivar MGR and Puratchi Thalaivi Amma Selvi Jayalalithaa Memorial. The memorial is expected to cost around Rs 15 crore.

Meanwhile, Sasikala Natrajan, the new AIADMK general secretary has urged PM Narendra Modi to issue a commemorative coin and special postal stamp for Puratchi Thalaivar MGR on his birth centenary.
